The pain centers of Nice and Marseille are among the largest and most active tertiary pain centers of the country, and are used to work together for years. Each of them cumulates about 10 000 consultations per year (about 1500 new patients/year), and an active list of patients of about 3500. The pain team of the CAL is specialized in the management of pain in cancer.

The neurosurgeons involved are specialized in the surgical treatment of pain, including lesional techniques, neuromodulation (spinal cord stimulation (SCS), peripheral nerve stimulation (PNS), deep brain stimulation (DBS) and intrathecal pumps. All these teams have active and close collaborations for many years.

This FHU project relies on the long lasting collaboration between the Pain Department (team C2) and the department of Neurosurgery (team C1) of the CHU de Nice. Since 2004, they have specifically developed an internationally recognized expertise in treatment of rCP and rCDH (including chronic cluster headache and migraine) by neuromodulation (DBS, ONS and sphenopalatine ganglion stimulation), coordinating multicenter studies and obtaining several institutional and industrial grants. Most of these previous projects have associated the Pain Department of Marseille (team C3), strengthening the ties between these teams, which guarantee the feasibility and efficacy of this FHU project.
